Extention Of Outlets
In this section I will be talking about music video and how it all began. I will be talking about how it all started. You could say that the first form of music video was the talkie. Talkies are a bit like jukeboxes except for the fact that they play videos as well as the music. They were very innovative for their time and they were mainly seen in places where the youths would hang out like bowling alleys and cafes. The 1930's had a massive impact on music video. There was alot of musicals because it was during the war and people needed something to keep their mind of the fighting and have a good time. Musicals were a great success and often raked in more money than hollywood films. In the 1950's/60's there was alot of experimentation with music video as at this time the war has ended and people were just having a good time. There were alot of youths around and drugs were taken quite frequently by bands like The Beatles and The Velvet Underground. They experimented with visual aesthetics as well as music and they tried to combine them frequently. Then in the 1970's came Top of The Pops. At top of the pops sometimes bands were unavailable to play so instead of worrying about them not turning up they would get them to perform a live performance for them as Top of The Pops mainly focused on bands who are in the charts and usually some of the popular bands would be on tour but they would use the music video to still promote them. Then 1980's saw MTV come to light. MTV was the first channel to play music video non-stop for 24 hours. As cable developed there were loads of different music video channels and you can choose which genre of music you wanted to watch. In the 90's the alternative rock boom loads of alternative rock bands were making videos and it was very much in fashion. In the 00's however youtube came to light music video died down. You can now watch music videos online and it's more easy to access the songs you want to.
